Crossing cultures: dialogue, discourse and diplomacy across boundaries - John Simpson

EN: A multidisciplinary symposium in conjunction with the ongoing installation of the IDA’s reconstruction of Palmyra’s Triumphal Arch. This event will bring together authors, journalists, lawyers, classicists, historians and scientists for two afternoons of lectures and discussion.
Difficult Conversations: the Potential for Civil Discourse in the 21st Century
Speaker: John Simpson CBE (BBC World Affairs Editor)
Mr Simpson, who has spent the past fifty years interviewing kings, presidents and prime ministers, and reporting from conflict zones around the globe, will explore strategies for engaging constructively in public dialogue around difficult subjects – one of the core themes of the IDA’s current installation at Neimenster Abbey.

Other contributors will include, Mr Roger Michel, Institute for Digital Archaeology, Dr Alexy Karenowska, Institute for Digital Archaeology and Department of Physics, University of Oxford, and Dr Daniel Robinson, Department of History and Magdalen College, University of Oxford.
