Opera comique - A comedy in English by Nagle Jackson

A group of wealthy Parisians is visiting the premiere of Bizet’s Carmen – but not for the music. Monsieur and Madame Corniche want their beautiful daughter, Viviane, to marry the young soldier Hector Vigneron. But Viviane is in love with Hector’s father. who is also having an affair with Viviane’s mother. Meanwhile La Tartine, a dancer and singer at the Concert Mandarins, is trying to seduce the great composer Gounod. And amid all this, Bizet is in despair at the poor reception of his new work. As the evening develops the different plots and intrigues become mixed and interwoven with hilarious and chaotic results. Carmen may be a tale of passion, sex and betrayal. but it’s nothing compared to what is happening in the audience!
