Olga’s Room - By Dea Loher
Translated by David Tushingham

In the first full English-language production of this amazing and challenging work by German playwright Dea Loher, Luxembourg’s first professional English-speaking theatre company Speaking in Tongues explores the true story of 1930s freedom fighter Olga Benario. Imprisoned in Brazil in 1936 and murdered six years later at Bernburg, Benario’s battle to preserve a sense of self in the most challenging circumstances imaginable is re-examined in this dark portrait of a deeply human struggle. Her story is a searing portrayal of the human spirit as it rallies against incarceration and torture.

Give nothing away under torture. Not a word. Silence.

Based in Luxembourg and London, Speaking in Tongues Theatre Company was founded in 2010 as the first professional English-speaking theatre company in Luxembourg. Our work aims to explore the power of storytelling through an emphasis on celebrating language. As well as creating our own work, we produce contemporary European plays in English, with performances both in the UK and mainland Europe.
