Jean Baptiste Baele « Nabiman »

Nabinam is an auto-biographical solo piece in which the protagonist comes close to the audience to recount his adoption story. The challenges he encountered along the way unfold in his retelling, such as the constant comparison of different skin colours or being apart from a sibling. Honest with a touch of humour, Nabinam takes the audience on a roller coaster of emotions with its unpredictable changes of pace.

Biography

Jean-Baptiste Baele is an independent Belgian choreographer based in Kristiansand, Norway. Originally from Madagascar, he grew up in Belgium where he started dancing at the age of 19. Under the mentorship of Valérie Matthieu and Talina Jager, Jean-Baptiste evolved as a dancer in Belgium for three years before moving to London to study a bachelor’s degree at the Trinity Laban conservatory of Music and Dance. After obtaining the Marion North Award Of Outstanding Performance Achievement in 2015, Jean-Baptiste presented his piece Rhetorical is the good word, a duet with the young Belgian artist Malik Zaryaty, at the Bonnie Bird Theater. He has performed for several choreographers such as Mia Habib, Daniel Mariblanca, Fred Gehrig, Freya Pauwels, Niki Van Callandt, Raynold Battesti, and Yves Ruth among others.
In 2018, Jean-Baptiste Baele choreographed his first piece A Tome just ended for the Perpetuum Mobile Festival, and met Julie Amal, with whom he founded the Baejjahn Dance company, based in Brussels. He is co-director and choreographer of the company until 2021.
When it comes to choreographing, Jean-Baptiste focuses on investigating the complexity of social behaviors, the history of a body and its memories, and the physicalities that evolve in space.

Nabinam est un solo autobiographique dans lequel le protagoniste s’approche du public pour raconter son histoire d’adoption. Les défis qu’il a rencontrés en cours de route se déroulent dans son récit, tels que la comparaison constante de différentes couleurs de peau ou le fait d’être séparé d’un frère ou d’une sœur. Honnête avec une touche d’humour, Nabinam emmène le public dans une montagne russe d’émotions avec ses changements de rythme imprévisibles.

Isaiah Wilson « 331 grams »

With the solo 331 grams, Isaiah is challenging the limits of his own body. He uses a Stethoscope attached to a Lavalier Microphone to enhance his own heartbeat through the speakers of the theater. Therefore his organ becomes the musical score of the piece.

Biography

Isaiah Wilson is an interdisciplinary artist based in Luxembourg. His work combines contemporary dance, film, electronic music composition & computational art. This medium diversity allows Isaiah to create unique and immersive worlds in which he invites his audience into layered sensorial experiences designed to reveal their vulnerability and eventually bring them closer to themselves. Isaiah makes a point to have the audience being part of the space and as a result, part of the performance, be it through the nature of the sites he chooses or by reimagining their very framework. Isaiah creates art pieces that challenge the human body, plunging it into worlds build from chaos and hope. With an existentialist reading Isaiah aims to explore the many facet of human emotions by showing them trough an absurd lens, juxtaposed with the ever-changing technological advancements of the 21st Century.

Avec le solo de 331 grammes, Isaiah défie les limites de son propre corps. Il utilise un stéthoscope attaché à un microphone Lavalier pour améliorer son propre rythme cardiaque à travers les haut-parleurs du théâtre. Dès lors son orgue devient la partition musicale de la pièce.

Isaiah tient à ce que le public fasse partie de l’espace et, par conséquent, de la performance, que ce soit par la nature des lieux qu’il choisit ou en réimaginant leur cadre même. Isaiah crée des œuvres d’art qui défient le corps humain, le plongeant dans des mondes construits à partir du chaos et de l’espoir. Avec une lecture existentialiste, Isaiah vise à explorer les nombreuses facettes des émotions humaines en les montrant à travers une lentille absurde, juxtaposée aux avancées technologiques en constante évolution du 21e siècle.
