Tchaïka - Adaptation d'après La Mouette, d'Anton Tchekhov

Tchaïka is a tale in which an elderly actress in the twilight of her life pursues a dream: to play the role of Arkadina in Chekhov’s ‘The Seagull’. In the darkness of the stage, an old actress, who at first does not know what she is doing there, is convinced that she will play the role she has always played, that of Nina. But she is told that she is not old enough to play Nina. Instead, she will play Arkadina, the old mother. Is this her last role? Despite her decay, she intends to perform. But her memory fails and, trying to reconstruct the play, she faces her professional and personal past. In her rout, fiction and reality intertwine.
In this mise en abyme, an actress and her puppet separate and reunite around the role of the old actress and her young alter-ego. Events follow one another between the desire to play and oblivion, navigating between fiction and the actress’ own reality.
On the verge of madness, the two characters are actually four, and ask us great questions about old age, our place and status in the world, or the border between hate and love. What happens to us when we go from the spotlight to the shadows?
