Geneviève Levivier | Hélène Mutter - Hélène Mutter "L'acide rougit le tournesol"

Within the framework of the artists’ residencies organized in partnership with Wallonie-Bruxelles International, neimënster will host an exhibition of two artists: Hélène Mutter with “L’acide rougit les tournesols” and Geneviève Levivier with “Panser – penser la nature”.

Realized at the borders of four countries, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France, this photographic project of Hélène Mutter questions the prison past of the Abbey of Neumünster at the time of the Second World War, as well as the memorial processes inherent to such places. What remains of the memory of an imprisoned man?

In Neumünster, as in the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville or in the Van Buuren Museum, among other in situ installations, Geneviève Levivier develops a performative practice inspired by the place and its resources. Creating her works in harmony with a place or a theme, she develops a dialogue between her work, architecture, nature and natural light, inspired by the notion of synesthesia. The residency in neimënster is also based on research work around pigments and natural binders freely formulated by the artist in a personal and technically reliable alchemy. Interventions on monumental woods gleaned from the surroundings will also complete the installation.

On the occasion of the launch of this exhibition, Hélène Mutter and Geneviève Levivier will present their works at a vernissage on Saturday, June 18, at 6:30 pm, as part of the Portes ouvertes dedicated to the artists in residence at neimënster.
